  • Cryotherapy
  • Heat Therapy
  • Low level laser
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound
  • Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
  • Tens Unit

Manual Therapy Techniques

Balance and propioception exercises, strengthening exercises, joint mobilizations, massage, stretches, facilitation of range of motion, and task oriented training are performed by our experienced physiotherapists, and under direct supervision by the veterinarian

Treadmill Training

Treadmill training reduces the energy cost of walking and improves confidence in walking on patients with neurological or orthopedic disabilities more than any other modality. Our facility offers two types of treadmills.

Ground Treadmill

The “incline ground” treadmill is an important tool for gait training, and muscular conditioning for patients that underwent orthopedic surgery, and for neurological patients on the last phase of the rehabilitation program. It is also of great value for athletes working on improving aerobic and muscular performance and overweight patients in need of closely monitor exercise in a control environment with air conditioning.

Underwater Treadmill

The “underwater treadmill” is unique in that it provides a buoyant environment for neurological patients with important deficiencies of balance and propioceptions. It is also the best modality for the patients with advanced arthritis that find it too painful to walk with the compression force of gravity affecting the joints. Orthopedic surgery patients benefit from the weightless environment for exercising. The water temperature is controlled at all times, so it’s warm and soothing to relax the muscles, soft tissue and painful joints. Depending on the individual goals the water can be increased or decreased and the patient can walk against three to six jets in order to promote muscle strengthening and further improve aerobic endurance. Swimming against the jets is a great exercise for athletic dogs, overweight dogs and neurological/orthopedic patients at the last stage of the program. Swimming against the jets is similar to a human endless pool.

Electro Acupuncture

Needle stimulation of acupuncture and trigger points with electricity is extremely effective as part of our approach to pain control. It is also of great value for stimulation of nerves and motor end plates. When indicated on a patient, at least four sessions are provided initially. Acupuncture effects, unlike pharmaceutical products, are cumulative and have no side effects. It is the ultimate “green medicine”.

Thermal Heat Therapy

For those patients with limitations in joint range of motion, decrease flexibility and/or immobile scar formation, thermal heat therapy will facilitate resolution of the condition.

Heat promotes blood flow to the area, and will accelerate tissue healing of superficial injuries. Thermal heat therapy will also relax spastic muscles and its related pain. Localized heat application will decrease joint pain by increasing the pain threshold. This mode of therapy is widely used in our in-patients, as well as part of the home therapy for out-patients.

Cryotherapy

Our top of the line cryotherapy unit is the treatment of choice for joint injuries. It is also invaluable for the treatment of edema and swelling. Our cryo unit provides dry cold active compressions on the affected site, improving circulation, and decreasing pain, and inflammation. It promotes a faster healing process. We also offer cryo therapy massage. It produces the benefits as our cryo unit, and in addition it is soothing and relaxing for the patient.

Low Level Laser

Cold laser is an effective and pain free modality to control pain and accelerate healing of an injury. It is also an indispensable tool for Regenerative Medicine procedures.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

The best modality to relax spastic muscles and the pain related with them. Therapeutic ultrasound provides a soothing massage with deep penetrating ultrasound waves to relax the affecting area. It is the modality of choice to stretch out collagen fibers that make up restrictive scar tissue, leading to limited use of a joint.

Neuromuscular Stimulation (NMES)

Electric stimulation is very effective for spinal pain control. It is also of great value to prevent loss of muscular mass on paralyzed patients. NMES uses a low level electrical current that decreases swelling and allows muscle contractions and recruitment after neurological or orthopedic injuries. Frequency, pulse duration, amplitudes, on-off time, ramp and electrode polarity are parameters adjusted accordingly to the condition on the patient that is treated.

Tens Unit

For the temporary control of localized pain, Tens therapy is provided to our canine patients with acute or chronic pain
